![]() I will probably wait until it's out of early access though. By focusing on score with this system, people who care about score gain NOTHING, but people who just want a challenging and tense combat experience loose A LOT.Īt the end I can say I still enjoyed the beta and I will keep the game in my wishlist still. Harnessing the AAA development quality of today, and mixed with the aesthetic of old, this latest project is one of the most advanced FPS games of the retro genre. Created by developer Bounding Box Software, Prodeus is a retro FPS throwback. Most people don't care about score, especially not on the first playthrough. Humble Games has announced that Prodeus has just entered closed beta testing. Maybe the devs think this is fine, because at the end of the map your score is still affected, but I think they throw away a lot by excusing this system by saying it's a score focused game. This is like Bioshock's respawn system, but worse, and takes out any sense of challenge. This means you can actually simply die your way through the game, because dieing has zero consequences (other than having to traverse an area you ran through again for like 1 minute). The most bizarre design decision is the checkpoint system, because the game doesn't revert to the game state when you activated the checkpoint, instead, everything stays the same, you just get health and ammo back. Maybe the combat wouldn't work well in more open and bigger enviroments, but it became a bit dull.Īnother thing that became a bit dull is the music, it became repetitive really fast. ![]() ![]() Every fight takes place in very small rooms, and cramped corridors, except the final fight in map 2 maybe. Not just visually, but gameplay-wise too. I knew what I was getting into before, but I didn't expect the levels being THIS simple. ![]() Sure, giving enemies more health makes the game harder, but it also makes the game more tedious and makes the gun feel weaker, which is the opposite what you want from a first person shooter. Turns out the enemies get more health on higher difficulties, which is an absolute no go in my opinion. The problem was that the enemies just took too many hits, could barely one shot the most basic enemy with a shotgun. I was playing on the second hardest difficulty, was gonna complain that the guns feel too weak, even though they sound nice and the effects are really good. I just played through the Closed Beta Campaign and here is my feedback: ![]()
